EVERY GRIEVING PARENT NEEDS YOUR HELP
We need your help to affect a Common Sense Change!
In November, it will be 24 years since my daughter, Sarah Grace, died of leukemia she was 12. Grief is a lifelong journey, and we are asking your support for a simple, compassionate, common-sense change to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
The Sarah-Grace-Farley-Kluger-Barklage Act, also known as the Bereavement Act, would add the loss of a child to circumstances covered by FMLA. First introduced in Congress in 2011–12, the legislation has been reintroduced nine times. For 14 years, families and advocates have worked with lawmakers to correct this painful oversight.
FMLA recognizes that families need protected time during life’s most significant moments, including the birth of a child and caring for seriously ill family, yet it provides no protected leave when a child dies.
Parents facing this unimaginable loss are expected to return to work within days—before having time to grieve and begin healing. No parent should have to choose between their livelihood and grieving their child.
On April 6, bipartisan legislation—H.R. 8207—was introduced in the House. We urge you to contact your U.S. Representatives and ask them to support the H.R. 8207.
Together, we can ensure grieving parents receive the time, dignity, and job protection they deserve.
