One Child at a Time: The Enduring Legacy of Sarah Grace
For more than 23 years, Sarah’s indelible spirit, courage, inspiration and passion have been the driving force behind The Sarah Grace Foundation’s accomplishments. Through our generous donors we have been able to provide financial aid and meaningful programs to ease the stress, fear and anxiety that accompanies a childhood cancer diagnosis.
We remain a fully volunteer organization through a dedicated team of “Sarah’s Angels” that works year-round to provide crafts, books, toys, games, school supplies, Halloween goodie bags and more. We also proudly continue to sponsor “The Bead Program”; “The Escape Hatch”; “Gabe’s Chemo Duck” and financial aid for groceries, clothing and household utilities.
Through the generosity of our donors, we have distributed 10,657 Halloween goodie bags, 8,915 books, 4,215 crafts and 9,183 holiday toys. Born from grief, our organization lives on to ‘provide smiles for children, one child at a time”. No matter what she endured, Sarah maintained an infectious smile and an extraordinary zest for life that we strive to live every day.
Our mission is rooted in bringing joy but one of our most solemn programs provides assistance with funeral expenses. At the close of April, as I write this, we have just received 3 referrals for assistance with funeral expenses. We believe there is no greater tragedy than the loss of a child – and no family should face financial hardship in laying their child to rest. To date the Foundation has assisted with funeral expenses for 215 children – 215 angels who have earned their wings.
None of this would be possible without you, our donors. We are honored to serve as stewards of your generosity and with that support Sarah’s light continues to shine. Over the last 23 years our team has touched the lives of thousands of children through our programs and financial aid to their families.
Fourteen years ago we embarked on a mission to modify FMLA legislation to include a provision allowing bereavement time off for the loss of a child. We’re sure this was an oversight when not included in the original legislation when written in 1993. On April 6th a new bill was introduced to Congress [ H.R. 8207 ] appropriately named “Parental Bereavement Act of 2026”, or “Sarah Grace-Farley-Kluger-Barklage Act”. Please help us by contacting your congressional representatives today and asking them to put their support behind this critical piece of legislation.
Thank you for your commitment to Sarah’s mission and for helping her light shine on. As Sarah’s name is spoken and her story is shared, her light continues to shine and, in that way, she lives on.
